Who we are.

Removing transportationbarriers by connecting people to essential services.

Direct Medical transportation is a Pacific Northwest NEMT provider headquartered in Eugene, Oregon, with operations spanning from the Oregon coast to eastern Oregon and now extending into Washington. What started as a local transportationservice has grown into one of the region's largest non-emergency medical transportation fleets, with 120+ drivers, 2.5 million miles driven, and a 24/7 dispatch operation that never stops. As demand grows, so does our map, and we're actively expanding across the West Coast.

We serve every corner of Oregon through partnerships with the state's major NEMT brokerages: RideSource, Cascades West Rideline, Bay Cities, ReadyRide, GOBHI, TransLink, Modivcare, and NorthWest Rides. We're building those same brokerage and facility relationships as we grow into Washington. Beyond brokerage work, we hold direct contracts with hospital systems like PeaceHealth and Samaritan Health Services, and operate public transit services in partnership with Lane Transit District.

Our mission is simple: make sure no one misses a medical appointment, a therapy session, or a critical transfer because they couldn't get a ride. We invest in our drivers, our fleet, and our communities, especially the rural ones that other providers overlook.

008 · FAQ

Questions, answered.

The things riders, families, and facility partners ask us most about medical transportationin Oregon. Still stuck? Call dispatch, and someone picks up.

What is non-emergency medical transportation(NEMT)?

NEMT is scheduled, non-ambulance transportationfor people who need to get to medical care but can't drive themselves or use a standard vehicle. It covers wheelchair, stretcher, and ambulatory rides to appointments, dialysis, physical therapy, behavioral health visits, and hospital discharges. It is not emergency service. If someone needs urgent medical attention, call 911.

Does the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) cover my ride?

For most Oregon Health Plan members, covered medical rides are arranged at no cost through a regional NEMT brokerage such as RideSource, Cascades West Rideline, Bay Cities, ReadyRide, GOBHI, TransLink, Modivcare, or NorthWest Rides. You call your brokerage, they verify eligibility, and they assign a provider like Direct Medical transportation. Coverage depends on your plan and the reason for the trip, so your brokerage is always the best first call.

How do I book a ride?

If your ride goes through a brokerage, call your brokerage to schedule and ask for Direct Medical transportation by name. Hospitals, clinics, care facilities, agencies, and private-pay riders can reach our dispatch line directly at (541) 345-1234. Booking 48 hours ahead gets you the best window, but our dispatch runs 24/7 and we handle same-day and discharge requests around the clock.

What areas do you serve?

We're headquartered in Eugene, Oregon, and our densest coverage is across Oregon, from the coast to eastern Oregon, with strong networks in Lane, Linn, Benton, and Douglas counties (Eugene, Springfield, Albany, Corvallis, Roseburg, Florence, Coos Bay). We also serve Washington and are actively expanding across the West Coast, and we regularly run long-distance trips to Portland, Salem, Bend, and beyond for specialty care. If you're in a market we haven't listed, just ask. The answer may still be yes.

What's the difference between wheelchair, stretcher, and ambulatory service?

Ambulatory is for riders who can walk to and enter a vehicle, with or without a cane or walker. Wheelchair service uses a lift-equipped van so the rider stays in their own chair, secured with four-point tie-downs. Stretcher (gurney) service is for riders who must stay reclined or supine, and it comes with a two-person crew. If you're unsure which one fits, describe the situation to dispatch and we'll size the vehicle correctly.

Can a family member or caregiver ride along?

Yes. In most cases one escort or caregiver rides at no extra charge, and service animals are always welcome. Tell dispatch or your brokerage when you book so we assign a vehicle with the right seating.

Do you only do medical trips?

No. Medical transportationis our core work, but the same fleet and drivers also handle contracted and demand-response transit, senior and community transportationation, agency group contracts, long-distance and out-of-area trips, and private-pay rides with no brokerage or referral needed. If it involves moving people safely and accessibly, ask us.

Are your drivers trained and background-checked?

Every driver is background-checked, drug-tested, and insured, with training in passenger assistance, wheelchair securement, defensive driving, CPR and First Aid, and patient confidentiality. Our vehicles are inspected and maintained in-house on a schedule that meets or exceeds state requirements.
